Individually hand-carved large Hooty Owl Plaque.
 
White Porcelain Stoneware clay - Black slip - Transparent stoneware glaze.
 
The illustration is carved, through a layer of black slip, to reveal the white clay surface beneath, using a method called 'sgraffito'. The style is reminiscent of linocut's graphical work. Each piece is entirely unique and the finished plaque has a beautiful, tactile, 'relief' surface.
 
On the back of the tile I have carved a natch that can be used to hang the piece from a flat headed nail. Alternatively, if preferred,  a small adhesive plate hanger can be used.
